An Uplifting Ma'amad Marking the Publication of the New Sefer of Maran Sar HaTorah, זצוק"ל – “Midrash Avraham im Peirush Ohel Avraham”
The gathering was held at the home of his son, the distinguished Gaon, HaRav Avraham Yeshayahu Kanievsky שליט"א, in the presence of a number of Maran זצ"ל’s close talmidim. The sefer is the final volume in the series of Maran’s sefarim on Midrashim. The distinguished Gaon, HaRav Avraham Moayal שליט"א, Rav of Kehillas Eish HaChaim in New York, who generously sponsored this edition, attended and addressed the gathering.
A special gathering was held this week to mark the publication of a new sefer containing the Torah and the handwritten writings of Maran Sar HaTorah, HaGaon HaRav Chaim Kanievsky זצוק"ל.
The sefer, entitled Midrash Avraham im Peirush Ohel Avraham, is a compilation of Chazal’s Midrashim concerning Avraham Avinu, from the time of his birth until his passing. Maran HaRav Chaim זצ"ל authored a special peirush elucidating these Midrashim.
The sefer has been brought to print by Maran’s son, the distinguished Gaon, HaRav Avraham Yeshayahu Kanievsky שליט"א, Rosh Kollel Orchot Yosher, who previously published his father’s sefarim on the Megillos and various Midrashei Chazal during Maran’s lifetime.
Maran HaRav Chaim זצ"ל authored this peirush on the Midrashei Chazal, which were compiled at his request and in accordance with his instructions, in the year 5777 (תשע"ז). This volume is the final installment in the series of sefarim, which includes Midrash Noach, Sefer HaBahir, and other works.
The small gathering was attended by several of the leading talmidim and close confidants of Maran HaGaon Rav Chaim zt”l, among them Rav Yeshayahu Epstein and Rav Yitzchak Ohev Tzion. Also present was Maran’s close confidant, HaGaon Rav Avraham Moyal, Rav of Kehillas Eish Hachaim in New York, who sponsored the first edition.
Maran’s eldest son addressed the gathering, noting that after two years of painstaking work arranging the material, the sefer was now complete. He added that there was no doubt that his father, Maran zt”l, was rejoicing in Gan Eden over the publication of the sefer, just as he had rejoiced in this world whenever a new sefer was published.
HaGaon Rav Avraham Moyal and HaGaon Rav Yitzchak Ohev Tzion also spoke, sharing their memories of Maran HaGaon Rav Chaim zt”l and his avodas hakodesh in writing his seforim.
